Celebrated annually on the Wednesday of National Library Week, National Bookmobile Day honors our nation’s bookmobiles and the dedicated library staff who provide this valuable and essential service to their communities every day.

In 2019, National Bookmobile Day will be Wednesday, April 10. Learn more about the Toledo Library’s Bookmobile, which has been serving the community for more than 80 years!

What exactly is a Bookmobile?

Think of the Bookmobile as a library-on-wheels. It houses a diverse collection of books, music, magazines and movies for customers of any age to check out on site. Customers can also request items to be delivered to their stops during its next visit.

Where does the Library’s Bookmobile go?

The Bookmobile serves local neighborhoods and shopping centers and regularly visits more than 30 senior and residential housing complexes.

Customers Love the Bookmobile (and its staff):

“I call the Mobile Services program and those people go out of their way to get me the books and movies I want, they even go to Search Ohio to get them for me. The people who work at Mobile Services are the best, most helpful and friendliest people I’ve ever dealt with. I thank the good lord for them in my prayers every night.” – Ron P.
“We love Outreach Services’ Bookmobile because they bring books, videos and movies right to the front doors of the Commons of Garden Lake. There are lots of veterans who don’t get a chance to venture out into the community and by having them come to our front door, the veterans get a chance to socialize and find new and interesting books, movies and videos. We appreciate your monthly visits and hope that the Bookmobile continues to stop by CAGL. Thank you for all you do Aeisha and Adam. We love to see you at CAGL!” – Robin C.

My father looks forward to the Library’s visits every month at the Ohio Living – Swan Creek Retirement Community. He is an avid reader and really appreciates the staffs’ efforts to provide his requested books, and when necessary find other books that he might like. The staff arrives with smiles on their faces and readily joke and cheer with the seniors living at Swan creek. Thank you for keeping my dad reading.” – Donna P.
