Music festival season is upon us! From country to rock to techno, our love of music in the Midwest brings a variety of festivals and concerts that offer something for every taste. We’ve pulled together a list of some of the region’s biggest festivals, but before you make any summer plans, brush up on your music knowledge and catch up on some of the latest releases from this year’s headlining acts.
Summer 2016 Music Events
|Brown Bag Concert Series |
Toledo, OH: June 8 – July 27
Our list has to begin with our own outdoor concert series! This year’s Brown Bag Concerts feature music by the Bradberries, Extra Stout, Fossil Creek, Rodney Parker & Liberty Beach, and more. Join us for this FREE series, Wednesdays at Main Library from 12:15 – 1:15 p.m.

Electronic Music Festivals
|Kraftwerk - This legendary German group is one of Movement’s 2016 headliners. Check out more than a dozen Kraftwerk albums on hoopla, including one of their most popular albums Trans Europe Express.|
|Bassnectar - Lorin Ashton aka Bassnector made a name for himself playing for thousands at Burning Man, and today is a music festival favorite, having headlined major music festivals including this year’s Electric Forest. Find several of his albums, including one of his latest releases Into the Sun, on hoopla.|
|Keyboard Presents The Evolution of Electronic Dance Music - From its roots in '80s Detroit techno to today's international, mainstream explosion of such genres as house, trance, and dubstep, electronic dance music has reshaped the popular musical landscape. Dig into the archives of Keyboard magazine to uncover the history of the EDM movement, written as it happened.|
Blues / Country Music Festivals
Some of the country’s biggest blues and country music festivals happen right in our back yards! Country Concert takes place in Fort Loramie, Ohio from July 7 – 9, Detroit’s Downtown Hoedown happens July 31, and Cincinnati’s Cincy Blues Festival takes place August 12 & 13.
|Brad Paisley - Have a little fun with Karaoke: In The Style of Brad Paisley albums, available on hoopla. Turn your love of music into a fun night with friends, then check out Brad as he headlines the Downtown Hoedown.|
|Eric Church - Winner of countless national awards, Eric Church is one of today’s biggest country music stars. Before seeing him as one of Country Concert’s 2016 headliners, listen to his albums on hoopla, including American Music Award’s 2014 Favorite Country Album, The Outsiders.|
|Martin Scorsese presents The Blues: A Musical Journey - Borrow this companion book to Scorsese’s PBS documentary of the same name, recounting the history and transformation of the blues.|
Pop / Rock Music Festivals
For rock, pop, and top 40 music lovers who are open to a short road trip, Bonnaroo in Manchester, Tennessee on June 9 – 12, and Lollapalooza in Chicago, Illinois on July 28 – 31 are two renowned festivals to consider.
|Ellie Goulding - You may have heard some of her hits on blockbuster movie soundtracks such as Fifty Shades of Grey, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and Divergent. A fast rising star in the pop music scene, she is headlining both Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza.|
|LCD Soundsystem - In 2014, LCD Soundsystem released The Long Goodbye a live recording of what was billed at the time as the group’s last live show. Cut to 2016, and LCD Soundsystem is back in action taking their unique electronic rock to both Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza.|
