Problems Connecting?

Inside the Library

If you experience any problems connecting to one of the subscription databases from within the Library, please inform one of the librarians.  They will make the necessary calls to Computer Operations to correct the problem.

Outside the Library
If you are attempting to connect to any of the Library's subscription databases, and you are having difficulty connecting to them, you may have to disable any firewalls that you have installed.

The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library remote access makes use of referring URL authentication to keep unauthorized users from getting into the system. Referring URL authentication checks the information transmitted by your browser to make sure that you are connecting through an authorized institution. If the referring URL is absent, you will get an error.

The most common causes for this are:

Your computer is running a personal firewall (or other security software) that stops your browser from sending the referring URL.

You need to configure your personal firewall to stop it from blocking the referrer information. Most firewalls will allow you to set up a trusted site. Once you set up a trusted site in your firewall, you will be able to access the site. For many of the Library's databases to work, you need to mark the following sites as trusted:

  • toledolibrary.org

If you are unsure on how to make changes to your Firewall software, please consult your user documentation to make the necessary changes.  Due to the vast number of Personal Firewalls available on the market, the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library cannot provide adequate support for all of them.

Here are some common questions we have received regarding connectivity to our website and to our subscription databases.  Go to FAQ Page >>
