Not Your Traditional Yoga

Posted 8 months ago by Hannah G

Much like Green Eggs and Ham, where one can eat “them in a boat... and… with a goat...,” yoga can be done in numerous ways ... possibly even with some animal neighs, and certainly at your own pace. Our most recent Literati event was no different; we hosted a beer yoga class and the Maumee Branch. We started with some of the basics: The tree pose, mountain pose and child’s pose.

If you’re looking for more gentle yoga, check out these suggestions:

Every body yoga : let go of fear, get on the mat, love your body / Jessamyn Stanley
Yoga for the Rest of Us: Easy Yoga for Arthritis with Peggy Cappy
Chair yoga : sit, stretch, and strengthen your way to a happier, healthier you / Kristin McGee

After the gentle introduction, we moved on to more complex moves, or at least a few that required additional focusing for balance. Think bird dog and warrior poses.

And, of course, intermediate yoga suggestions:

Fusion workouts : fitness, yoga, pilates, and barre / Helen Vanderburg
Big gal yoga : poses and practices to celebrate your body and empower your life / Valerie Sagun
Ashtanga Yoga - The Intermediate Series

And then the part you’ve all been waiting for... the unique part. What took this yoga class to the next level, you ask? Beer. At the Library after hours. Outside. Nice weather. While we can’t claim to be responsible for the nice weather, the other features were strategically planned. Everyone who participated received an hour-long yoga class, with two beers from Earnest Brew Works, and a Literati cup – now that’s something most of us can raise a glass to.

Don’t forget these unique yoga suggestions:

Flow Yoga for Beginners

Maybe the beer is where we caught your attention!

If so, check out one of our Books on Tap book clubs ...

Or try beginning books on brewing, or a hoppy history for more opportunities to engage with the Library, read a good book, and possibly crack a cold one.

The death of an heir : Adolph Coors III and the murder that rocked an American brewing dynasty / Philip Jett
Ohio's craft beers : discovering the variety, enjoying the quality, relishing the experience / Paul L. Gaston
Brew your business : the ultimate craft beer playbook / [edited by] Karen McGrath, Regina Luttrell, M. Todd Luttrell, and Sean McGrath

So, whether you’re into beer yoga, dog yoga, some other type of yoga, or no yoga at all, keep checking back with Literati to see what we’re up to!
