Take a step back through time.

July 2005- Harry Potter and the Half‑Blood Prince was released globally, selling around nine million copies within 24 hours and shattering publishing records.

July 2010- The first Instagram posts were shared.

July 2015- Naomi Campbell joins the American Horror Story: Hotel cast as Lady Gaga’s nemesis.

Interesting times. Equally interesting were the movies of the time.

Turning 10

— From Steamy Strips to Superhero Tricks: A Wild Ride from Magic Mike XXL to Minions!

During the summer of 2015, movie theaters offered a little something for everyone: the bawdy swagger of Magic Mike XXL, the high-stakes thrills and chills of  Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, the irreverent hilarity of Trainwreck, the pint-sized heroics of Ant-Man, the chaotic-yet-adorable charm of The Minions. A decade later, these wildly different blockbusters still capture the energy and variety that made that movie season unforgettable.

Turning 15

— Dreams, Demons, and Double Lives: From Gru to Gotham in Summer’s Wildest Reel Ride

Fifteen years ago, 2010 brought a mix of heart, mind-bending action, and animated mischief to the screen. Before The Minions, there was something, well, despicable: Despicable Me introduced the world not just to the conflicted antihero Gru but also his squadron of squishy, goofy, canary-colored banana-lovers. Charlie St. Cloud offered a story of love, loss, and second chances. Inception explored the terrain of dreams, reality, and ideas with trippy, groundbreaking special effects. Predators invited us back to the jungle and the intergalactic sport of human-hunting previously explored in Predator 2. And in Batman: Under the Red Hood, Batman faces a mysterious vigilante, who may or may not be taking a basket of goodies to grandmother’s house. From emotional journeys to dreamscapes and vigilante justice, these films still resonate across genres and generations.

Turning 20

— From Superkids to Sugar Daddies: A High-Flying, Dog-Loving, Bear-Cursing, Mic-Dropping Summer at the Movies

The summer of 2005 delivered a cinematic grab bag of heart, humor, and heroics—from the teen-powered fun of Sky High to the gritty determination of Hustle & Flow, from the never-say-never spirit of Bad News Bears to Tim Burton’s deliciously delightful, whimsically wonderful world of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. And of course the timelessly romantic Must Love Dogs from back when online dating profiles still felt kind of new. Two decades later, these films remind us of a year where stories of transformation, perseverance, and connection took center stage.
