Fifty-five years ago this month, in inclement weather, Otis Redding and his band boarded his twin-engine plane to travel from Cleveland to Madison, Wisconsin for a show. The crash that ended that journey put an abrupt end to one of the most promising voices in the history of American music. The 26-year-old soul singer left behind an astonishing catalog of classic recordings for someone so young, along with agonizing questions about what more he might have accomplished.
