The Blog of Toledo Lucas County Public Library
At the Library we are all about lifelong learning – it’s even right there in our mission statement! In fact, our mission statement specifically says that we strive to “inspire lifelong learning,” and being with dogs can do just that. My dogs have taught me about the importance of perseverance (just gotta get in the trash can, no matter what!), being a good friend (even if it means my 90-pound boxer sitting on top of me), and demonstrating courage in the face of adversity (someday, they WILL catch that squirrel, despite the fence!).
The resources below can teach us a little bit more about our humanity, dog behavior, and lifelong learning (and that there’s always time for an old dog to learn a new trick!). So, if you’re ready to chase the proverbial squirrel, read on!
No matter what season in life you may be experiencing, dogs provide us a unique way to look at the world and learn something – maybe about ourselves, maybe about others, maybe about something else entirely. And, if there are dogs involved in my lifelong learning journey, then I’m all about that car ride… as long as it doesn’t include the vet’s office!
