Homemade Holiday Gifts

I got the idea for this post from my own family. Every year, we draw names in November for holiday gifts. Whichever person you get, you are to create a gift for without spending any money. Now, because I am a minimalist by nature, this is difficult, but I can still find excellent things for cheap and turn them into something fun, silly, disturbing, useless, or whatever suits the person I drew for. One year, I made my little brother a sock monkey. His name was “Big Show” and he still dances around my parents’ kitchen at Christmas time in an alarming manner because he is so unsightly. Even though Big Show is not a cute or finely crafted sock monkey, my brother, now grown, still loves and cherishes this gift that I made for him out of a pair of socks from Target and some pillow stuffing.
Make beautiful memories this holiday season by not spending lots of money, but by making memorable, conversation starting, lovely things for your family. Not only is this a great way to save money, but it also is a great way to reuse and recycle items you have at home! Get creative and substitute things the “recipe” calls for with things you already have.
