Are you wondering, “What is Juneteenth?” Juneteenth is a day, a week, and in some areas a month marked with celebrations, guest speakers, picnics, and family gatherings that recognize the 19th of June as the day of emancipation of enslaved people in Texas. It is also a time for reflection, rejoicing, assessment, self-improvement, and planning the future. Before heading out to a Juneteenth celebration event near you, please be sure to call or stop by any Library location where there are plenty of books, eBooks, and movies about Juneteenth available to get you started.
