World War I Posters
Digitally preserved in 2019, the Library’s collection of original WWI posters includes several iconic and rare posters by artists such as Ohio-born Howard Chandler Christy, illustrator of the famous “Christy Girls” who encouraged Americans to support the war efforts.

Toledo’s Black History
Photographs, interviews, reports, newspaper clippings, and more tell the story of Toledo’s Black community. With the addition of two recently digitized scrapbooks, almost 100 years of Toledo’s Black history is now freely available to browse online.

Organized Crime in Toledo
Thomas “Yonnie” Licavoli and the Purple Gang led a notorious crime spree in the early 1930s in an effort to become Toledo’s reigning racketeers. A collection of photographs, newspaper articles, and magazine clippings lay out their nefarious dealings during the Prohibition era.
