July 12, 1925: The director of the Library, Carl Vitz, purchased three Babylonian tablets from Edgar J. Banks, whom acquired them during an archeology dig in the early 1900s. These 4,000 year old tablets are the oldest items within the Library’s collection and are celebrating a major milestone.
To commemorate the 100th anniversary of these items being part of our collection, the Local History Department has placed them on display with some related artifacts. Be sure to check it out on the 3rd floor of the Main Library.
