Help from local organizations at four locations

 

AARP Tax-Aide at Sanger, West Toledo, and Maumee

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide provides tax assistance to anyone, free of charge, with a

special focus on taxpayers who are over 50 or have low to moderate income.

Area volunteers will be providing free assistance to taxpayers with their 2025 Federal, State of Ohio, and Ohio School District tax returns.

The following are within the scope of this service:

Earned Income Credits, Child Tax Credits, Unemployment Benefits, Child and Dependent Care Expenses, Debt Cancellation, Education Credits, IRA Contributions / Distributions, Capital Gains / Losses, Disability Income and Marketplace Affordable Care Act (ACA) Health Insurance.

The following are outside the scope of this service:

Non-Ohio state returns, part-year Ohio returns, city tax returns, complex tax issues, including depreciation, multiple broker statements (1099-B’s), casualty/disaster losses, complex K-1’s, farm income, military returns, business with expenses over $5,000 or any net losses, any digital currency (Bitcoin etc.) transactions, multiple W2’s, and rental income.

Taxpayers MUST BRING the following documents to their first appointment:

  • Copy of driver’s license with photo ID or State Identification Card.
  • Copy of Social Security cards for yourself, your spouse, and all dependents.
  • Previous year’s tax return.
  • Voided blank check (not a deposit slip) if you want to direct deposit any refund(s) or direct debit any amounts due

Remember YOU are responsible for the information on your tax return. 

Please provide complete and accurate information. 

You must have ALL APPLICABLE documents listed above at the first appointment.

Please have all documents out of envelopes and organized.

Sanger – 1-hour appointments  

Appointments: Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays – start date TBD

Registration start date: TBD

West Toledo – 1-hour appointments

Appointments: Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning 2/3/26

Registration begins 1/20

Customers must call the Branch to register at 419.259.5290.

Maumee – Drop-off method with pickup/signing the following week

Registration start date: 1/26

Appointments: Mondays and Wednesdays beginning 2/2/26

Customers must call the Branch to register at 419.259.5360.

***Participants will need to pick up the TaxAide Envelope Packet before their first appointment. You can pick up a packet on the days the Library is open or at least 30 minutes before your appointment, so that the Intake/Interview form, worksheets, and all three consent forms can be completely filled out before your appointment begins.

VITA at Mott

The IRS offers free basic tax return preparation to people who qualify through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs. People qualify if they earn $67,000 or less or if they are 60+ years of age. The programs also serve taxpayers with disabilities or limited English.

VITA is a yearly initiative provided by LISC Toledo in partnership with Enterprise, United Way of Greater Toledo, and LISC’s local Financial Opportunity Center® partners.

Mott Branch will host VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) this year on several “Super Saturdays” through the end of tax season.

VITA is not yet taking appointments. When registration opens, sign-up will be done by calling 211.
