Did you know that April is National Arab American Heritage Month? No!? OK, sit down and listen up. This is important.
Arab Americans are more than just hummus. Here are the basics: we are a Semitic people who trace our origins to 22 Arabic-speaking countries in the Southwest Asia and North Africa region. Arab people are unified through the Arab language, shared culture, and traditions. Not everyone from that 22-country region is considered Arab. There are also Turks, Iranians, Amazigh, Armenians, Chaldeans, Assyrians, and other groups with distinct languages and cultures separate from Arabic people. And no, we’re not all Muslim either! Arabs are also Christian, Jewish, Druze, Atheist, and more.
Check out these titles to celebrate the Arab American people and our heritage.
