Happy Birthday, Zendaya!

It’s not technically true that every single movie released this year has Zendaya in it. (Some of them have Anne Hathaway.) But the award-winning, bountifully charming actor has sure been in a lot of them – The Drama, The Odyssey, a Dune, a Spider-Man – as well as starring in the buzzy final season of the bonkers what’s-up-with-young-people-today TV show Euphoria. And next year she’s in a Shrek, because apparently we’re still making those. On top of all that, of course, she’s been on a series of nonstop publicity press tours and I think somewhere in there she also secretly married Tom Holland. Eventually she’ll play Batman, and open a theme park, and by the time she’s elected president we’ll all have officially reached the apotheosis of the glorious process of Zendayification.
The other thing she’s doing this year – specifically, on September 1 – is turning thirty. And I’m not gonna lie: her list of accomplishments, for a thirty-year-old, is pretty solid. But we’re all different, we’ve all got our own list of personal triumphs. Me, for instance, by the time I turned thirty, I think I’d learned how to pronounce açaí correctly most of the time. But I don’t want to get all braggy.
So if you see Zendaya this week, wish her a happy birthday. And cast her in another movie. She likes that.
