10 Comics If You Love The Boys and Invincible

In recent years, the small screen has caught up to a question that superhero comics have been occupied with for over 40 years: “What if Superman was bad?” Or at least, “What if Superman was not so morally good?” It’s an important question, both within our popular narratives but also for anyone who’s ever considered that maybe it’s not such a great idea for horrible people to have massive amounts of power. Alan Moore spent much of his time in the ‘80s exploring this idea, particularly in Miracleman and Watchmen, although I think you can see the roots of this tracing back to the morally gray antiheroes of the ‘70s, like Wolverine, The Punisher, Blade, and Ghost Rider.

Today, the premise of ostensible heroes with violent tendencies and massive amounts of unchecked authority is big business in the TV world, if the popularity of Omni-Man and Homelander (from Invincible and The Boys, respectively) is any indication. However, after you watch the shows, make sure to browse the comics that walked so Invincible and The Boys could run. We’ve selected some of our favorites below.
