Harry the dog likes everything, except baths, so he runs away from home. But does he really want to give up a warm home and loving family?
Harry the Dirty Dog by Gene Zion
Harry has many fun adventures in town, and manages to become so dirty, he no longer looks like a white dog with black spots. He becomes hungry and tired, and heads for home, hoping his family does not think he really ran away. But once home, his family does not recognize this black dog with white spots! How will Harry prove he’s their dog? Published originally in 1956 in black and white, this delightful book was re-released in 2002 with color added by the original illustrator, Margaret Bloy Graham. Three more “Harry” books are listed below, along with other fun dog books. This book and many more are part of the 101 Picture Book Challenge.
