The Fall of the House of Usher is debuting on Netflix and after you watch, you’ll need some spine-tingling reads to carry you through the rest of spooky season. Fans of previous scary adaptations The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor will feel right at home (pun intended) at the House of Usher, based on Edgar Allan Poe’s short story of the same name.
So if you like classic horror stories (or their contemporary equivalents), these are the books you need to read…though they may keep you up at night.
The Portable Edgar Allan Poe by Edgar Allan Poe
The Best of Richard Matheson by Richard Matheson
The Ballad of Black Tom by Victor LaValle
Growing Things and Other Stories by Paul Tremblay
The Gathering Dark : an Anthology of Folk Horror
Through the Woods by Emily Carroll
The Haunting Season : Eight Ghostly Tales for Long Winter Nights
Ghost Stories : Classic Tales of Horror and Suspense
Ghostly Tales : Spine-chilling Stories of the Victorian Age
American Midnight : Tales of the Dark
