While it’s easy to assume that romance and/or sexual identity are at the center of all queer stories, some of the best LGBTQIA+ books capture the full spectrum of the human experience—including mental and physical health. We’ve combed the collection to bring you some of the best books that represent different forms of mental illness—from anxiety, to depression, to bipolar disorder—and also physical disabilities, all from the perspective of LGBTQIA+ authors and characters. We hope that this Disability Pride Month, these selections broaden your appreciation and understanding of not only the LGBTQIA+ experience, but also the neurodivergent one.
