10 of the Best Angela Lansbury Movies

Angela Lansbury was almost 60 when she became a household name in the TV show “Murder, She Wrote,” but it’s a testament to the breadth of her talents that not even the memorable (and meme-able) Jessica Fletcher could fully define her.

Lansbury, who died October 11 at the age of 96, is revered by theater buffs as a Broadway legend who defined or redefined such musical roles as Mame, Mama Rose, and Mrs. Lovett.  For just about anyone born after 1986, she’s the lilting voice of Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast. And then there’s Jessica — her amateur sleuth of Cabot Cove, the little Maine town with the astronomical murder rate.

Lansbury’s long acting career spanned an uncommonly broad swath of classic movie history. Here are ten of the most notable films she enlivened with her sparky presence.
