10 Thrilling Films That Make You Think About Class

Horror and adjacent films love a rich villain or rich villain conglomerate. Actually, a great deal of entertainment we consume examine the influence of wealth, power, and fear on one another resulting in plenty of inventive storytelling. The following films are generally bloody examinations of social status that warrant a rewatch — or several.

Following the success of Get Out, Jordan Peele released this incredible psychological horror film where the scary part isn't actually the doubles the main characters face; it's what they represent.
ready or not
Go into this knowing as little as possible. You'll thank me later for it. Deadly hide-and-seek. Beautiful set dressing. Absolutely wild kill shots. If that's not enough, you're missing out.
parasite
The film that took our locked-down world by storm for its timing, poignant messaging, and direction from Bong Joon Ho. Some call it a horror film. Some a thriller. Some satire and some black comedy. None of which would really be wrong.
speak no evil
Featuring James McAvoy in an absolutely bestial nature wholly unlike his character in Split, a vacationing American family in Italy befriend, a vacationing British family. And despite their gut intuition and red flags, the Daltons agree to add Devon, England to the itinerary where their trip takes an odd turn.
the killing of a sacred deer
The message behind this movie is more perplexing than just not taking a strange boy under your wing. And so begins an uncomfortable domestic situation in which renowned surgeon Dr. Murphy allows teen Martin into his life uprooting the entire family.
the hunt
If you read The Most Dangerous Game in your high school English class, this likely strikes a cord. A group of the socially elite kidnap people of the working class and hunt them for sport.

Okay so if you've heard the phrase, "eat the rich," this is... that.
blink twice
People need to stop taking offers to visit secluded locations from rich people because it simply doesn't end well. When Frida works and exclusive event and gets invited to such a place, well... (Also, I encourage you to look up content warnings for this one).
bodies bodies bodies
This title strays the furthest from what is sometimes referred to as "1% horror," but it's just so wild that it had to be included. When a "hurricane party" goes wrong, a lot of blood gets into the designer carpet.
train to busan
Widely considered one of the most thrilling zombie films ever shot, Train to Busan is explosive in action, but somewhat subtle in its social messaging. It also serves as a reminder that commuting anywhere is the worst.
