Arguably the most prestigious awards in all of comics, the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards (or Eisners, for short) have been given out annually since 1988. Essentially the “Academy Awards of Comics,” the Eisners function basically as, well…. the Academy Awards of comics: a limited number of people in the comics industry nominate and vote on a limited number of comics. That being said, this year’s awards (presented at San Diego Comic Con) nonetheless highlighted some impressive achievements in the realm of comics, with works from familiar comics legends to talented up-and-comers. DC in particular, had a good night, with two wins each for Nightwing and The Human Target (yes, Nightwing does live up to the hype). So take a dive into some of the most critically acclaimed books of the year. You never know, they may lead you to more great comic books that haven’t made it on your radar yet.
