5 Great Books for Fans of APM Reports “Sold a Story” Podcast

Emily Hanford’s investigative podcast Sold a Story demonstrated that reading instruction has not always aligned with effective practices informed by cognitive science. While Hanford’s work focuses on the ideas and authors that influenced reading curriculums for decades, she only skims the surface of the science of reading. According to The Reading League, “The science of reading is a vast, interdisciplinary body of scientifically-based research about reading and issues related to reading and writing.”
If Sold a Story piqued your curiosity, try these titles for a deeper dive into the science of reading.
Disclaimer: Technically Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons is not a book about the Science of Reading. However, since it aligns with the science and is discussed by parents during the podcast this title may appeal to podcast listeners.
