5 Movies Like Groundhog Day

February 2nd is Groundhog Day in North America, when we all hope the rodent doesn’t see his shadow and we might greet an early spring. If you are like me, you also immediately think of the film Groundhog Day and its infamous time loop. I’ve recommended 5 more time loop movies below, for when the genre calls your name, but you don’t want to watch the same thing over and over.

Before I Fall

Samantha Kingston wakes up on February 12 and goes about her day as any other. But when a horrible accident happens at the end of the night, she wakes up in the morning…again on February 12. Stuck in a time loop, she works to uncover exactly what happened that night.

Edge of Tomorrow

Earth is under attack…from seemingly unbeatable aliens. Major Cage finds himself called for combat and loses his life. Stuck in a time loop, he repeats the day over and over, getting himself closer to saving the Earth each time.

Happy Death Day

A college student keeps reliving the day of her death (ironically also her birthday), trying to figure out who killed her.

Source Code

A secret military operation allows a helicopter pilot to experience the end of another man’s life in a train explosion. He has 8 minutes – over and over – to learn everything he can to stop it from happening again.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

Ok, so this one is loosely a time-loop movie, but I’m counting it. Young Jake travels to his grandfather’s childhood home, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, where he finds a group of children stuck in a time loop on the day before the school is bombed.
