8 Best Doom Patrol Comics

Introduced in My Greatest Adventure #80 from 1963, Doom Patrol has never truly been a top tier book for DC. Originally consisting of Robotman, Negative Man, and Elasti-Girl, Doom Patrol would have a revolving cast of characters from the more idiosyncratic corners of the DC universe, including Beast Boy, Crazy Jane, and Flex Mentallo. Fresh off his brilliant run on Animal Man, Grant Morrison brought new life to the team in the 1980s by ramping up the weirdness and taking a rather postmodernism, meta approach to storytelling. In recent years, Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance fame would revive Doom Patrol once again for a whole new generation of readers while maintaining many of the qualities that made previous iterations of Doom Patrol so beloved. Of course, making the leap to the small screen has brought this cast of superpowered outcasts to an even bigger audience. Prepare for the show’s upcoming episodes by flipping through some of its source material, and, of course, make sure to rewatch the first, second, and third seasons.
