In their 3rd studio album the Australian rock group, Tame Impala has taken the leap forward from guitar driven indie band to chart topping synth-laced sensation. While some people may recognize the band from their hard driving hit, “Elephant” their latest album bears little resemblance to the modest rock n’ roll splash. Currents is a commercial music masterpiece with pop songs cloaked in layers of psychedelic synthesizers and memorable bass lines. The band’s vocalist and primary creative force, Kevin Parker, has a John Lennon-esque ethereal quality to his voice as well as a similar knack for crafting ear catching melodies. Singles on the album like, “Eventually” and “Let it Happen” showcase the evolution of the band as radio hits with the same melancholy undercurrents displayed more overtly in previous releases. With an ever-evolving approach that embraces the change in musical trends, Tame Impala has created a timeless album for fans to sing-along and dance to.
