Breaking Barriers: Inspiring Stories from the AAPI Disability Community

Disability rights advocate and founder of the Disability Visibility Project, Alice Wong (1974-2025), wrote at length about the way her experience as a disabled woman and an Asian Pacific American (APA) worked to inform her identity and the discrimination she faced. She was a champion of amplifying the stories of those traditionally excluded, as a way to resist historic and ongoing oppression and to celebrate the varied lives of those who belong to the disabled community.
This Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month is an excellent time to revisit Wong’s works on intersectionality as well as to celebrate the voices of others in the diverse disabled AAPI community. You can begin by checking out the following titles.
