Debuting on January 17th, 1929 within the panels of E.C. Segar's Thimble Theatre, Popeye the Sailor Man would go on to become one of the most enduring comic characters of the early 20th century. Characterized by gigantic muscles, horrible manners, and an endless taste for spinach, Popeye was practically a proto-superhero of his day who would go on to star in countless comics, cartoons, a live-action film, and more recently, several unofficial horror movies (thanks, public domain laws!). So this Popeye Day, celebrate everyone's favorite irritable, muscle-bound seaman with this selection of media that spans almost a century.
