Disability In Comics: 10 Amazing Picks for Superhuman Day

The idea behind Superhuman Day emerged in 2016 when the British network, Channel 4, broadcasted the Summer Paralympic Games. An ad campaign leading up to the event was called “We’re the Superhumans,” and aimed to dispel stereotypes surrounding those with disabilities, highlight their strength and achievements, and ultimately show that those with disabilities should be treated with dignity and equality. Fortunately, there are no shortage of comics, graphic novels, and manga that not only represent characters with diverse disabilities, but also explore the often complex experience of living with a disability—both visible and invisible. Check out our picks below, but more importantly, challenge yourself to evaluate your attitudes and biases towards those living with a disability.
