Work It: Labor Day and the Jaw-Dropping History of American Workers

As you prepare to mark the unofficial end of summer this Labor Day, take a moment to reflect on the historical events that led to the creation of the holiday. For more than a hundred years Labor Day has been an opportunity to celebrate the economic and social impacts of the American worker.
Labor is constantly changing within our society, and if you have an interest in this area or history, the Rogowski-Kaptur Labor History Room at the Main Library is a must-see. It’s filled with labor artifacts, memorabilia, and books, and accessing these resources is an excellent way to get acquainted with the sacrifices that went into winning the work environments we enjoy today.
The following is a small sampling of the labor resources that can be found in this room and in our Local History Department. For more information, call the Local History Department at 419.259.5233.
