Discover Your Unique Roots with these Incredible Works

It is difficult to know who you are if you do not know where you come from. This long-held philosophy plays a significant role within our culture and lives. Where our ancestors come from play a vital role in our identities. As we get to know people, we will often associate our ethnic backgrounds with who we are, introducing ourselves as “Irish Americans” or “Cuban Americans,” or “Chinese Americans” or “I’m Irish, Cuban, and Chinese,” explaining how these make up who we are.
Many of us rely on our parents and grandparents to establish this sense of identity. When we decide we’d like to learn more about where we come from, we may make discoveries that lead us to question what we thought we knew about ourselves and our family. While this idea may be scary, it’s an excellent opportunity to discover who you really are.
Whether your discoveries confirmed your family’s information, or you’ve made a new discovery, sometimes it may be a bit hard to know where to go next. The Library has assembled a collection of resources to help you discover your unique roots, and the people who helped make you who you are!
