2021 marks the 25th anniversary of El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children’s Day/Book Day). Every year on April 30th, libraries and schools across the country celebrate children, families, and reading while recognizing the importance of literacy for all children of all language and cultural backgrounds. During El día de los niños/El día de los libros an emphasis is placed on sharing books that celebrate diverse cultures, languages and families. This celebration of children and literacy coincides with Día del niño celebrated throughout Mexico and other Latin American countries.
Join us in celebrating by reading a book with your family. To learn more about the celebrations check out Celebremos El Día de los Niños/El Día de los Libros (Book Fiesta! Celebrate Children’s Day/Book Day) written by Pat Mora and Illustrated by Rafael López.
Books for Infants, Toddlers, and Preschoolers
We all know reading to our young children is important, but it can also be hard to choose the right book! The picture books we are suggesting here celebrate diverse cultures, languages and families, but are also shorter, have large illustrations, and are meant to be read aloud with someone. Choose one or a few and celebrate El día de los niños/El día de los libros with us.
