Lucasfilm has chosen October to celebrate Star Wars Reads– a month dedicated to the Star Wars Extended Universe and early literacy around the galaxy.
With no shortage of film or printed word content, it may seem daunting to dive into this massive universe, so here are some recommendations to get you (or your family) started.
Are You Scared, Darth Vader?
By Adam Rex
A picture book about the galaxy’s most infamous father, Darth Vader, and how he’s totally not scared of anything at all, ever.
The Legend of Obi-Wan Kenobi

Relive some of the legendary Obi-Wan Kenobi’s most daring adventures in this Little Golden Book. Darth Maul! Darth Vader! Luke Skywalker! He was there for it all.
A Jedi You Will Be
By Preeti Chhibber
A picture book this is. Learn how to be a Jedi, you will. “Hilarious, I am.” – Master Yoda, probably.
Death Star Battle

Attack of the Furball
By Jarrett Krosoczka

Most Wanted

Solo: A Star Wars Story isn’t considered one of the best standalone films, but this book may make up for that. It’s a prequel to this prequel telling readers how Han and Qi’ra met and survived within the confines of Corellia’s sewers.
Star Wars: Bounty Hunters. Vol. 1, Galaxy’s Deadliest
By Ethan Sacks
If you dig the grungy, underworld settings of Star Wars, consider the Bounty Hunters graphic novels, which not only tell a great story but have a fitting art style to help tell it.
Star Wars: The High Republic, Edge of Balance Vol. 1
By Shima Shinya
Maybe your favorite era in the Star Wars timeline is during The High Republic. If so, consider this manga in which a Jedi, Lily Tora-Asi, is assigned to Branchii—a newly inhabited planet where a new Jedi temple will be erected.
Who is George Lucas?
By Pamela D. Pollack
Spoiler Alert: George Lucas is the creator of Star Wars! But this book will tell you even more about him and his quest to create the popular space opera all the way back to the 1970s.
LEGO Star Wars Character Encyclopedia
By Elizabeth Dowsett
It’s got heroes. It’s got villains. It’s got a bunch of information about pretty much every little LEGO Star Wars minifigure to exist!
Padawan Cookbook: Kid-Friendly Recipes from a Galaxy Far, Far Away

Look at the recipe for Jawa sushi and tell me you don’t want to make it. And mean it.
LEGO Star Wars Ideas Book: More Than 200 Games, Activities, and Building Ideas
By Hannah Dolan
More LEGOs! The perfect companion to the character encyclopedia above, this book will inspire your own galactic creations.
Star Wars Galactic Maps: An Illustrated Atlas of the Star Wars Universe
