NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month, began in 1999 and takes place each November challenging writers to complete a novel in 30 days.

The written word has the power to transform our creative ideas into something magical we can share with others.

During NaNoWriMo, try your hand at writing to unlock your creative side this November and beyond.

Sign up for one of our writing workshops and explore our digital booklist that includes books written during NaNoWriMo.

Writing Workshops

Writers Un-Blocked: Getting Words onto the Page Where: Main Library When: Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021 | 2-3 p.m.

Regardless of whether we write poetry, fiction, drama, or memoir, we sometimes just get stuck.  This workshop explores methods for overcoming inertia and getting our writing moving again. Sessions will include time for both discussion and writing. Presented by Owens Community College. Registration required.

A Thousand Words: Linking Writing to Photography Where: Main Library When: Saturday, Nov. 13, 2021 | 2-3 p.m.

We make images with our words the way a photographer makes images with a camera. The image is a key aspect of good writing. This workshop explores the connection between the pictures we take and the words we write. Sessions will include time for both discussion and writing. Presented by Owens Community College. Registration required.

The Rules Make Us Free: Traditional Form in Poetry Where: Main Library When: Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021 | 2-3 p.m.

It’s easy to dismiss writing, say, a sonnet, or a haiku, as old-fashioned and limiting. But form is everywhere in poetry and using form can force us to make poems we didn’t know were in us.  We’ll play with two traditional forms, the villanelle and the pantoum. Sessions will include time for both discussion and writing. Presented by Owens Community College. Registration required.
