Happy Happy Happy Birthday, Chaka-Chaka-Chaka Khan

Chaka Khan turns 70 years old this month, and she’s celebrating like any legendary superstar would: she’s coming to Ohio. On March 29, the R&B luminary will appear at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland to open an exhibit commemorating her fifty triumphant years in the music business. (This in spite of the fact that she hasn’t been inducted into the Hall of Fame yet, an oversight they should probably rectify. You don’t want to incur the wrath of this famously opinionated and acid-tongued septuagenarian, Cleveland. If you don’t believe me, just ask Kanye or Ariana Grande or Mary J. Blige or whoever she’s going to get mad at tomorrow.)

Khan has racked up ten Grammy awards and twice as many nominations and collaborated with iconic admirers from Melle Mel to Ray Charles to Prince. (Prince was such a fan of hers that he reportedly set up a meeting with her by calling on the phone and pretending to be Sly Stone. That made her mad, too.) If you need a refresher on why she’s the Queen of Funk, check out some of her indispensable recordings:
