September is National Library Card Sign-up Month, a perfect time to celebrate all the adventures waiting at your library! The American Library Association started this national campaign in 1987 to remind parents and students that the best back to school supply is a library card. For children, a library card is a ticket to stories filled with colorful characters, new ideas, laughter, and discovery. Picture books make a wonderful place to start, whether you’re sharing a favorite at bedtime or choosing a brand new story together. For older readers, diving into the world of chapter books is exciting, with more complex stories to devour such as these escapades featuring libraries.
This Library Card Sign-up Month, visit your library and explore the shelves with your young reader. Give independent readers the freedom to browse for books. With a library card in hand, there’s always another story waiting to be discovered!
