Honoring America’s Brave Men and Women this Memorial Day

Memorial Day is a holiday that carries mixed emotions. Many of us will make plans with family and friends to bask in the warmer weather, enjoy barbeques, and participate in the many summer attractions that designate this weekend their official opening day. We will make happy memories as we indulge in the longer weekend with our loved ones. However, this day also brings sadness and grief for those who take those moments to reflect and remember why the holiday exists: to honor those who have given their lives to defend our freedoms and our country.

The Local History Department’s Digital Collections contain a variety of photographs pertaining to the American military. To honor the men and women who have served our country, we have put together this small collection of photographs of service members, events, and memorials from our area.

The Toledo Library would like to take this opportunity to thank all those that have served our country. If you recognize someone represented in our collections whose name is unknown to us, we encourage you to reach out to the Local History Department at local.history@toledolibrary.org.
