Whether you’ve been down the genealogical research rabbit hole for awhile or you are just joining us, you have likely come across an ancestor whose story has remained elusive and much more difficult to trace than some of our other relatives. These difficulties can result from a number of different causes, such as cultural practices and customs, standard practices in the era they lived, their social status, or their gender just to name a few.
The book series “Tracing Your Ancestors” is a collection of helpful guides for family historians — new and experienced — on how to find information on ancestors whose stories may be a bit harder to find and which sources are best references for specific information. The Toledo Library has an extensive collection on many of these works, with a small sample displayed below. If you have an ancestor whose story has been harder to trace, explore the Library’s catalog to see if this series has a work that may illuminate the story of your ancestor.
