Meet the Entrepreneur: Owner of Lavish Me Spa to Join Entrepreneurship Week Panel at Toledo Library

Angel Hansard had a hunch even as a young child that her leadership skills were likely to grow toward business ownership, but it wasn’t until 2020 that she was able to walk away from her 9 to 5. “That’s the year I seized a leave opportunity to further my education and obtain my license as an esthetician. The resources and time were finally in my favor to open my own business.”

Fast forward to 2024, and Hansard’s Lavish Me Spa is celebrating three years in business as a minority- and woman-owned medical spa offering an array of services geared toward wellness and aesthetics. When asked if there was anything that has surprised her about entrepreneurship, Hansard laughed. “Everything! One day is never the same and anything can happen, good or bad.” She chooses to focus on the positive, noting that taking time along her journey to step back and observe the elevation in her knowledge and skill set has been very rewarding.

Along Hansard’s entrepreneurial journey, she found the Toledo Library, sharing that having small business specialist librarian Linda Faye Lucas along as her mentor for a major pitch competition was instrumental to the spa’s business growth. At the time she and Faye Lucas connected, Hansard was participating in the Jumpstart Small Business Impact Program and the specialist librarian helped her to prepare for their culminating showcase event and pitch competition. Hansard would go on to take home the top prize in the Jumpstart showcase, which included a $10,000 investment in her business. Since then, Lavish Me Spa has grown to offer a wide array of popular services such as IV vitamin therapy, vitamin IM shots, medical weight loss, advanced skincare, body waxing, body contouring, post-op care, and more.

Since we all know that running a small business takes serious perseverance, we asked Hansard what keeps her motivated: “The lasting relationships I’ve built with my clients – they’re who keep me going.”

And with that, we encourage fellow small business owners from all industries to build similar impactful and inspiring relationships. Start now by registering for the upcoming Entrepreneurship Week program: Meet the Entrepreneurs  on Tuesday, November 12 at  4 p.m. at Main Library. Join Angel Hansard of Lavish Me Spa and four fellow entrepreneurs for a discussion panel and live Q&A session all about the triumphs and trials of small business ownership. Moderated by Toledo Library’s Small Business and Nonprofit team, the full list of panelists includes Angel Hansard of Lavish Me by Adore MedSpa, Christopher Harris of Black Frog Brewery, Dondra Coleman of Learning Ladder Child Care & Development Center, Jasmine Lynn Pope of Blessings in DisguiZe Behavioral Health, and Tom Otieno of Jikoni Toledo Food Truck.
