What is your personality type? Myers-Briggs is an introspective questionnaire that indicates how you perceive the world and make decisions. Each four-letter result is a personality type. There are 16 personality types comprised of the following attributes:
- Introverted (I) or Extroverted (E)
- Sensing/Observant (S) or Intuition (N)
- Feeling (F) or Thinking (T)
- Judging (J) or Perceiving (P)
While there are plenty of free Myers-Briggs Type Indicator websites, I recommend www.16personalities.com. Take a test and learn your personality type!
Here are 16 book recommendations, one for each personality type. You can also enjoy these books as movies or streaming series.

ISTJ – The Logistician
The true story of Jean de Coarroughes, a Norman knight. Fresh from combat in Scotland, he finds his wife accusing squire Jacques Le Gris of rape. A court announces a “trial by combat,” leaving Marguerite’s fate in the balance. If her husband loses the duel, she will be put to death as a false accuser. This book is based on extensive research in Normandy and Paris. A ISTJ personality will enjoy this accurate account of a gripping historical event. The movie version of this book hits the box office on October 15, 2021.
ISFJ – The Defender
In a tiny French village at the beginning of World War II, German soldiers requisition all the homes in town. Vianne and her sister Isabelle are forced to house German soldiers in their homes. The sisters are very different. Vianne wants to keep her head down and survive, while Isabelle rebels against the Nazis. An ISFJ person will appreciate this historical fiction with a touch of romance. Elle and Dakota Fanning star in this movie, to be released December 23, 2022.
ESTJ – The Executive
John Kelly, former Navy SEAL and Vietnam veteran, vows to track down the enemies who harmed his young friend. Meanwhile, the Pentagon reaches out to John, asking him to help rescue Vietnamese prisoners-of-war. The knife-edge suspense and intricate plot of this military thriller will appeal to the ESTJ personality. The theatrical release date was April 2021.
ESFJ – The Consul
In the 1970s, two very different girls become friends. As the years pass, Tully becomes a television celebrity, while Kate is a wife and mother. A single act of betrayal will put their 30-year friendship to the test. The ESFJ personality type values friendship and tales of happily-ever-after. This Netflix series premiered in February 2021.
ISTP – The Virtuoso
After the Civil War, traveling news reader Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd is paid to transport Johanna, a young white orphan captive of the Kiowa tribe. The unlikely pair form a bond as they travel 400 miles of dangerous, unsettled territory. But Johanna’s reunion with her family has unexpected consequences. Like Captain Kidd, the ISTP type is an action-oriented loner. This movie was released on DVD in March 2021.
ISFP – The Adventurer
Before Dorothy arrives in Oz, green-skinned Elphaba becomes the Wicked Witch of the West. This reimagining of the land of Oz changes the reputation of one of the most sinister witches in literature and challenges the nature of good and evil. The ISFP personality type loves music. This book was the basis for a Broadway musical and a movie, set to premiere December 22, 2021.
ESTP – The Entrepreneur
Fourteen-year-old Jace Wilson has just witnessed a brutal murder. Issued a new identity, he is placed off the grid in a wilderness skills program for troubled teens. With Jace in hiding, the police can search for the Blackwell brothers. But the brothers might find Jace first! The ESTP personality will enjoy this book’s action and adventure elements. The movie was released to theaters and HBOMax in May 2021.
ESFP – The Entertainer
In this lighthearted teen series, Lara Jean never openly admits her crushes. Instead, she writes each boy a letter, seals it, and hides it in a box under her bed. One day, she opens the box and discovers that the letters have been mailed, and the fun begins! ESFP readers will enjoy this book with a youthful spark. Look on Netflix for a three-season series, as well as a movie: To All the Boys: Always and Forever.
INFJ – The Advocate
This teen book takes place in an alternate world of magic and war. The once great nation of Ravka is cut in two, and a large swath of darkness called the Shadow Fold separates East from West. The fate of Ravka rests in the hands of a refugee woman. When Alaina’s regiment is attacked by gargoyle monsters, she discovers powers she doesn’t know she had. The INFJ loves tales of fantasy and good versus evil. Netflix released this series in April 2021.
INFP – The Mediator
A wooden puppet wants to be a real boy. What better way to be a boy then to disobey his father, forget his promises, and stroll through town looking for fun? But he will not be real until he gains education, common sense, and compassion. Compared to the classic animated tale of Pinocchio, this original version is darker and more humorous. The INFP personality enjoys stories featuring magical realism. Netflix will release a stop-motion musical version of the story in 2021.
ENFJ – The Protagonist
The Secret is a self-help book about the power of positive thinking. The author focuses on the idea that thinking about dreams of wealth will cause them to manifest in your life. On the flip side, thinking about worst-case scenarios will cause your fears to be realized. The ENFJ personality appreciates New Age and spiritual ideas. The movie titled The Secret: Dare to Dream, loosely based on this book, was released on DVD in September 2020.
ENFP – The Campaigner
Nomadland is a true story about people who lost their jobs in the Great Recession. These American nomads, typically older adults, travel the country creating a low-cost labor pool. The book celebrates the resiliency of these Americans who no longer have roots in a town or city, maintaining hope while surviving in new places. ENFP personalities are free-spirited travelers who enjoy adventure stories. The 2020 film based on this book won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
INTJ – The Architect
Anna Fox lives alone and is unable to venture outside. She spies on her new neighbors, who look like the perfect family. One night Anna looks out the window and sees something that shatters her world. Was what she saw real or imagined? Nothing is what it seems! The INTJ personality is curious and loves the mysterious and unexplained. Netflix released this film in May 2021.
INTP – The Logician
In this dystopian teen novel, a young man sets off across the New World searching for answers about his space colony’s true past. Todd had always believed that females had been wiped off the planet by a virus. Now he must spend the last days of his boyhood learning what is real and true. The INTP personality enjoys alternate realities that walk the line between fantastical and scientific. The movie version, titled Chaos Walking, was released in theaters in March 2021.
ENTJ – The Commander
Blonde is a fictionalized story of the life of Norma Jean Baker, AKA Marilyn Monroe. Oates has based her book closely on Monroe’s real life, but there are elements of fiction. The ENTJ personality type enjoys biographies or biographical fiction, especially if the person is as successful as Monroe. Netflix is expected to drop this biographical drama in 2021.
ENTP – The Debater
Sophie and James are part of Britain’s privileged elite and appear to be the perfect couple. When James, a government minister, is accused of a heinous crime, his wife Sophie knows he is innocent. Kate is hired to prosecute the case that will take her career to the next level. She knows that James is guilty and will pay for his crimes. So many secrets…so many lies. The ENTP personality will enjoy this mystery thriller that is filled with conflict. Netflix will release Anatomy of a Scandal as a series in 2021.
