O Canada Week: The Best Canadian Romance
Posted on March 4, 2026
by Allison F
It may be cold in Saskatchewan, but it’s heating up here in Toledo where we’re celebrating O Canada Week the best way we know how – with Canadian romance authors. Our neighbors to the north have produced some of the best romances of the last several years, and it’s time that we gave them the attention they deserve. So grab your boy Rozanov, and put on your cowboy hats/hockey skates/black leather gloves, because things are about to get heated…
butcher & blackbird by Brynne Weaver
That’s right, the queen of questionable uses for ice cream in plot development is from Canada. Weaver’s darkly funny Butcher and Blackbird series is perfect if you like your romances featuring antiheroes with a side of crime. (Don’t read if you’re squeamish.)
kitty st. clair's last dance by Kate Robb
Sweet, sweet Kate has magical realism romance down to a science. From time travel in Kitty St. Clair’s Last Dance to magic gone wrong in This Spells Love, Kate’s inventiveness makes for wonderfully original stories while still giving us the tropes we love.
ayesha at last by Uzma Jalaluddin
I’m a sucker for a retelling, and Uzma Jalaluddin is at the top of the genre when it comes to Austen-reimagined, delivering us the stories we love with changes that make them deeper and more connected to our modern world.
flawless by Elsie Silver
I didn’t know I was a cowboy-romance girly until I discovered Elsie. Ms. Silver can write a cowboy better than most people, and she doesn’t stop there. She’s got music producers! Professional Wrestlers! Bull riders! Mysterious mountain men! IT’S TOO MUCH TOO GOOD. I highly recommend you start with Flawless, the first in the Chestnut Springs series to kick-start your new obsession. I said saddle up...
out on a limb by Hannah Bonam-Young
Oh Miss Hannah, you wonderful soul. Bonam-Young’s books are like hugs from your best friend. Out on a Limb was my introduction to her and remains one of my all-time favorite romances. We love the disability representation alongside a golden retriever MMC.
remember me tomorrow by Farah Heron
My favorite book by Farah Heron is Remember Me Tomorrow. It’s the perfect blend of mystery, romance, and yearning, featuring an out of sync with time, forced-proximity story that is a truly inventive twist on a classic trope.
heated rivalry by Rachel Reid
It’s fitting that Toledo is celebrating O Canada Week in this, the year of Hollanov, 2026. I’m sure you’re sick of hearing about Heated Rivalry and how it’s taken over everything, but we aren’t sick of talking about it, so too bad. If FOR SOME REASON you haven’t picked up one of these books yet, what are you waiting for? It’s the feel-good series that we all need right now. P.S. They’re all available right now on Hoopla.
