May 18 is International Museum Day, and you don’t have to travel across the country to visit some of the world’s finest museums: they’re right here in Toledo! Take a staycation and visit some of the excellent educational opportunities northwest Ohio and the surrounding area has to offer.

The Toledo Museum of Art

I tell this story all the time, so I apologize if you’ve heard it from me before. I’m a Toledo transplant, and when a former colleague learned that I was moving to Toledo, she raved about the Toledo Museum of Art. She is an art museum connoisseur, and travels the world specifically to go to art museums, and has been at them all: the Louvre, the Art Institute of Chicago, Tate Modern, etc.

Her favorite art museum on this planet? The Toledo Museum of Art.

National Museum of the Great Lakes

Great Lakes, great times, am I right?

Actually, life on the Great Lakes isn’t always so easy, and the National Museum of the Great Lakes puts that in perspective through it’s various exhibits on the lives, leisure, and industry that has come about because of the world’s largest fresh water resource.

Imagination Station

Imagination Station is the place to go to get hands on science-related fun. And pro-parent tip: if you need to tire out the kiddos, this is absolutely the place to do it. They’ll have a blast, they’ll be learning, and by the time they get home they will sleep so you can catch a moment of quiet.
