Out of the Coffin, Onto the Page

The most popular myth of the vampire says they stalk in the night and seek out victims most likely to succumb to their will. Perhaps that is why popular media has not been able to let the vampire myth go since Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel Dracula, or the 1922 version of the film Nosferatu. The origin of vampires has been difficult to pin down, however, with authors drawing inspiration from cultural folktales from around the world. One thing that remains consistent about vampires across the centuries is their ability to be different. The list of features for each vampire grows and shrinks with the author’s imagination. Vampires have become more than the ugly, twisted portrayals of folklore, into beautiful creatures that have mystical powers. Our teen fiction list of vampire books continues the tradition of being untraditional, with multiple styles of vampires included.
Vampires have made a comeback in the media this year in a big way. Whether you can’t get enough of Nosferatu, Sinners, or Interview with the Vampire, they have made an impact on our large and small screens. Try out these teen vampire novels with the ones we all know and love, such as Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight, or go for a recently released one in A.R. Vishny’s Night Owls. All iterations of blood suckers are on this list, from the sparkly, to the spooky. Vampires suck, but these novels do not!
