Rachel Recommends: The Summer of Jaws

I was born in the Summer of Jaws.

In June 1975, Steven Spielberg bestowed upon me the greatest gift an infant can receive: an Oscar-winning cinematic masterpiece that changed the landscape of creature features, ignited an era of summer blockbusters and instilled a deep fear of the ocean in an entire generation. This summer, I plan to celebrate my 50th birthday and ‘live every week like it’s shark week.’

Perhaps I’ll linger in touristy shallows, take my inadequately sized boat out for a spin, or join a campaign for a mayoral candidate who can rock a blazer with anchor details like no other. Join in the celebration by taking a bite of the Toledo Library’s ample supply of shark-themed chum.
