Remembering Peter David: 10 Remarkable Comics You Need to Read

The world of comics lost one of its greatest, most influential, and most prolific writers this past week — of not only the past 40 years, but of all time. Peter David started writing for Marvel in the mid-1980s with some impressive work on The Spectacular Spider-Man, but his 12-year, character-defining run on The Incredible Hulk is what really put him on the map and continues to be a major part of his legacy. An outspoken figure, David’s feuds within the industry are near-legendary (particularly with Todd McFarlane and Wizard Magazine), although they are perhaps eclipsed by his staunch support for creators. A master of humor, action, character development, and thought-provoking storytelling, you can’t go wrong with any of David’s work, but we’ve selected some of our favorites below. For my money, he is the definitive Hulk writer, much like Chris Claremont is for X-Men and Frank Miller is for Daredevil.
