Sonny Rollins: 10 Unparalleled Albums from a Jazz Legend

The world of jazz lost one of its most seminal tenor saxophonists this week with the passing of the legendary Sonny Rollins at the age of 95. Over his 50+ year career, Rollins played at the White House, recorded with The Rolling Stones, and appeared on The Simpsons. However, he was also just an exceedingly talented and groundbreaking musician.
Rollins' resume reads like a "who's who" of jazz superstars. He recorded with Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman, Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, Max Roach, and even a track with John Coltrane (this list could go on and on). While his whole discography is a fascinating exploration of bebop/hard bop jazz, his sixth studio album, Saxophone Colossus, is often regarded as one of the greatest jazz recordings of all time. And honestly, it's a great place to start if you're new to his work.
In honor of this American musical icon, we've selected some of his most interesting, innovative, and enduring albums to feature his stellar musicianship.
