We’re happy to be a good neighbor by providing free self-serve meeting rooms. (Self-serve means you may move furniture, but you will need to return room to original set-up. Technology support may be available.) Users of this space must agree to and follow the Library Community Room policy.
Quiet study rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis during open hours. There are often quiet study tables too, but they are within the main library space.

General Observations
- Some of the issues with this building may be impossible to solve because it is land-locked.
- The layout is restricted by its donut shape due to the elevator and stair located in the middle of the space. It inhibits visibility through the space from the entry.
- Shelving is too crowded and bulky.
- Some floor space needs to be cleared for a larger reference service point.
- A different shelving arrangement is needed for improved browsing and to have enough room for the reference service point.
- The lighting in some areas is dim.
- The computer lab works very well dividing spaces and has great transparency for oversight.
- The integration of technology within the collection areas is good.
- The circulation desk looks dated.
- The material returns are hidden from entry.
- Unique characteristics: architecture is well preserved, the windows, the woodwork, etc.
- Having to escort people downstairs for events is not ideal but makes the best of an inconvenient situation.
- The media studio seems to be well used/active.
- The teen space is very successful, popular, and well used. Kids are comfortable hanging out in there.
- The studio is extremely well used.
- The location of the elevator is an unavoidable impediment to open visible through this space.
In spring 2024, the Library sent a survey to the Lucas County community to learn what you love about your Library and how we could improve our buildings to better meet your needs. This is what 146 West Toledo neighbors said they wanted in an updated space.

The West Toledo Branch opened its present building in 1930. In 2001, it was remodeled and expanded. In 2013, it closed for one year to undergo another upgrade and expand from 18,987 to 21,515 square feet, reopening to the public in 2014. The renovation includes the system’s first-ever 3D printer and a creation studio. This Branch is such a beloved community center that the entire neighborhood is called Library Village.
