Good books serve as both mirrors and windows. Characters of various backgrounds and abilities can simultaneously teach us empathy and normalize a reality that may be different from our own. We hope that this list of both fiction and nonfiction titles for your middle grades reader will open and expand their level of ability awareness.

A Library card number and PIN will be required to access many of the resources listed. Need help with an existing card or PIN? Contact your nearest location or call 419.259.5200. Need a new card?

Enjoy these diverse reads and request to borrow them from your closest library location! Looking for more diverse programs and activities? Check out our BIG IDEA page.
