Children Love Everything About Music

Whether it’s banging on a pan or plastic tub to hear the sound or dancing enthusiastically to toddler tunes, music has the potential to engage children in fun and unique ways. Music may even help reduce stress and alleviate boredom, which is something we all need from time to time.
When seeking music for toddlers and preschoolers, songs that include repeating lyrics and/or rhymes along with selections that encourage singing along are good choices. Why? These elements can help children develop essential early literacy skills. For school age children, integrate a variety of music to both educate and engage children.
Don’t have a lot of time? Play music in the background while your little one sleeps, during family game night or car rides. Enjoy music whenever and wherever you can.
My kids love singing along and dancing when they hear a catchy tune. But look out, they will sing those songs over … and over … and over again. Get ready for this phrase on repeat – “ooh eeh ooh ah aah ting tang walla walla bing bang” from the song “Witch Doctor” by Ross Bagdasarian, better known as David Seville from the Chipmunks. Forewarning, these songs will get stuck in your head. Just keep reminding yourself – they’re learning and growing – then put on another song.
