The Blog of Toledo Lucas County Public Library
Northwest Ohio has long been home to a superb collection of arts and recreation. These attractions are now even more accessible through Toledo Library.
With the Library’s Discovery Pass program, customers can log in with their Library card and see free or discounted offers to area events. The program enables easy online reservation. Initial partners are The Arts Commission, Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority (TARTA), Toledo Symphony, Toledo Ballet and Imagination Station.
“Part of the Library’s mission is connecting people to information and experiences,” said Andy Lechlak, digital strategist at Toledo Library. “We have those relationships with area partners, and can help facilitate that connection.”
Discovery Pass offers presently include free rides on TARTA during Art Loop as well as free tickets to some upcoming Toledo Symphony performances. Lechlak said this program meets the Library’s strategic goal of enabling connections between customers and other organizations and services.
“I think the Library is trying to provide that equal access and opportunity for everyone through having free resources. If we can help provide those experiences they would not normally be able to afford or attend, we’re fulfilling part of that mission,” Adult Services Coordinator Tim Hagen said.
Major library systems representing New York City, Contra Costa County of northern California, and Illinois statewide have successfully implemented similar programs. Toledo Library officials have been working on Discovery Pass for about two years.
Lechlak said he hopes to grow the program through additional partners. The Library can also generate return-on-investment reports for Discovery Pass organizations that detail how much they have given back to the community. Customers and organizations do not need to reside in Lucas County to take part. Any area group interested in joining Discovery Pass should contact Hagen at 419-259-5249 or email@example.com.
